Using Wimba
An explanation of the parts of Wimba:

1 - Video Window
The video window may not pop-up until video is playing. You may also show/hide
video window using the control bar (see #3 below).
The buttons at the bottom of the the window control (left to right):
Start your camera (if you have a camera and the professor has requested you start it).
Show/hide the picture-in-picture of your own camera. (If you wanted to check it while the
professor were using his camera for example.)
Make the video cover the entire screen. (Hit esc to exit fullscreen mode.)
2 - Slides Area
If the professor has uploaded a PowerPoint presentation, the slides will
be visible here for students to see.
3 - Wimba Control Bar
This bar contains the main controls for Wimba. Controls (left to right) are:
- The network status indicator. Shows connection information.
- The talk button. This button is hold-to-talk. (You may also use the CTRL key on your keyboard to talk.)
The volume button and volume meter. Click to open the volume controls. The left
slider is for speaker volume (that you hear). The right slider controls the volume
of your mic (that the class hears). The mic volume control will be disabled if auto-volume
is turned on (this is the default). In the center are volume meters.
- Show/hide the camera window
- Get phone-in information. Students are welcome to use the phone-in system at their own expense.
- Advanced options. These options include a talk "lock" for hands-free speaking, and the ability to select
a different microphone than the default.
4 - Chat Area

Comments can be read in the top section of the chat. Underneath, you may select
who your comments go to, and to the right is where you type your comments.
5 - Participants Area
This area has a list of participants, as well as indicators of the current status
of each participant. Professors may (for example) ask that everyone click the checkmark
if they agree or the X if they disagree.
